The Play
Our Town is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Thornton Wilder that follows the lives of the citizens in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, between 1901 and 1913. It examines universal themes of life, love, marriage, and death through the story of two families and a young couple, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, with a minimalist, metatheatrical style that often uses a narrator called the Stage Manager. The play is known for its profound simplicity and its focus on appreciating the “smallest events” of daily life.
