Synopsis
“The old language is a barrier to progress.”
Ireland in 1833 ~ a land of old traditions embedded deep in the rock and bog. Ireland in 1833 ~ a land where new ideas and new ways of doing things were beginning to take root. The hedge school system was on its way out, the new National School System on its way in. Lessons taught in Gaelic were being replaced by lessons taught in English. The British military were re-mapping the island as part of the Ordnance Survey and anglicizing the Irish names and way of life along the way. And just ahead, the potato famine and all that would entail. It is a world where love can happen, crossing cultural boundaries to a place where words can not meet.
